In 2008, the UK passed the Climate Change Act as part of its strategy to reduce CO² emissions. Included in this legislation was the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme. This scheme places mandatory obligations on all substantial consumers of electrical power. These obligations include registering as a participant in the scheme, reporting energy usage, and purchasing carbon emission allowances to cover energy consumed. In common with all other companies in our industry with a significant UK presence, Equinix has complied with its obligations and is registered with the scheme.
